Partos Oedoen

Partos Oedoen Oedoen Partos (1907-1977) was born in Budapest where he studied violin with Hubay and composition with Kodaly. Until his arrival in Israel in 1938, he was the concertmaster of a number of orchestras and also appeared as a soloist throughout Europe. From 1938 to 1956 he was the leader of the viola section of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with which he appeared as soloist in Israel, Europe and the U.S.A., while at the same time giving recitals and participating in various chamber ensembles. In 1951 he was appointed Director of the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv, a position held until his death. After leaving the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Partos devoted himself mainly the field of music education, composition and solo appearances. In 1961 he was appointed professor at the Tel Aviv University. Amongst his many works are CONCERTO for violin (1958), written for Yehudi Menuhin; ARABESQUE for oboe and chamber orchestra, written and premiered by Heinz Holliger and numerous works for the viola including four viola concertos.
