Moshe Wilensky

WILENSKY, Moshe, b. 1910 in Warsaw, Poland. Graduated at the Warsaw State Conservatory, conducting and arrangement, and immigrated to Israel in 1932. He composed music for theatres in Israel, for the Little Habima in New York, score for the Israeli revue "The Happy Land" at the Radio City Music Hall in New York, and for the television CBS New York and BBC London. Wilensky conducted radio and TV orchestras in Israel, U. S. A. and Europe, among them a recording of the "Three Penny Opera" by Kurt Weill. He produced a radio variety show which won first prize at the Monte Carlo International Radio Contest. Compositions: operetta "Shulamit", music for documentary and feature films, over 500 songs ("Stav" and "Layla Veashan" won awards in 1962 and 1963 Song Festivals at Sopot, Poland; most popular – "Kalaniot", "Mul Har Sinai", "Hora Mamtera", "Migdalor" a.o.), works for orchestra, choreographic music, arrangements of oriental folk melodies. Moshe Wilensky died in 1997, January 3d, in Tel Aviv.
