Uri Brener

Uri Brener (b. 1974, Moscow) is an acclaimed composer and pianist. He began playing piano at the age of four and pursued his studies in Russia, Germany, and Holland. Brener holds a PhD cum laude in composition from Bar-Ilan University, Israel. His works have been performed across the globe, including in Israel, Germany, the USA (such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York), Australia, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Canada, Italy (notably the Capitolini Museum of Rome), Holland, Russia (including the Tretyakov State Gallery), Serbia, and Croatia.

Among the prestigious ensembles and musicians that have performed his music are the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra under Frédéric Chaslin, the Moscow Soloists under Yuri Bashmet, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Tel Aviv Soloists Orchestra, the Aviv Quartet, the Continuum Ensemble (NY, USA), and the New Juilliard Ensemble, among others.

Brener has composed over 100 works, including piano sonatas, three piano concertos, four chamber symphonies, three double concertos, the “Faust-Concerto” for viola and orchestra, the oratorio Shunamit, and Psalms and Praises for soloists, choir, and orchestra, as well as symphonic poems and extensive chamber music. He is a two-time recipient of the Israeli Prime Minister’s Prize for Composition and a three-time ACUM Prize winner. From 2008, Brener served as the composer-in-residence for the Israeli Sinfonietta for nearly a decade.
