About the creation

Metamorphoses for unaccompanied violin was written in 1968 and is based on a theme by Gesualdo di Vesona (1560-1613), from his madrigal Moro lasso al mio duolo ("I die spent the grief"). The work was written for the Israeli violinist David Chen, who first performed it in Jerusalem in 1969. The fingering and bowing indications are by Yaair Kless.
