About the creation
The concertino for flute and piano was written in 1970, and it is written in the serial technique, by which the pitches of the piece must appear in a fixed order. Pártos, however, does not use this technique in a rigid manner, but uses its basics as a melodic infrastructure to the piece. The piece also includes a lot of extended techniques, such as tapping on the keys of the flute without blowing air into it and the playing of microtones. In major parts of the piece Pártos gives the performers lots of freedom, especially in the rhythmic aspects of the piece (the players are able to choose which rhythmic values they will use during sections of the piece).
