About the creation

How she sat alone is a dramatic work, influenced by the Book of Lamentations, attributed to the prophet Jeremiah. In the proverb A 1-3, Jeremiah laments the city of Jerusalem:

How she sat alone the city once so full of people!

How like a widow is she who once was great among the nation!

She who was queen among the provinces has now become a slave.

The first movement is all-orchestral and displays different elements of the city of Jerusalem where at times life is flowing routinely and at others - the city goes through deep drama and tragedies. The Soprano joins the orchestra in the second movement - Lament and sings without words. She expresses the sorrow and agony over the city that descended from greatness and lost its glory. The third movement, with the participation of the Soprano, echoes material from the two previous movements.

The work illustrates a dynamic reality with an actual potential of anxiety from all that surrounds us: the violence, the bluntness and the destruction that is accompanied by sadness and pain (the Lament). Jerusalem that fell from its greatness then - as Jeremiah laments, is also the Jerusalem of our time, which is again moving away from its prominence.
