About the creation
This composition was written by Avi Moghrabi in memory of his first teacher of music composition, the composer Professor Joseph Dorfman. Shortly after Professor Dorfman’s death in 2006, his widow, pianist Lily Dorfman, approved Avi Moghrabi’s wish to compose a new piece, based on a short melodic fragment written by her late husband. This fragment acts as the waltz motif in the new composition. Another important motif, featured in the introduction, is Professor Dorfman’s musical signature – transliteration of his literal name DORFMAN into music notes.
As the composition continues these two motifs meet and create a melodic and textured dialogue. Concluding this piece is a postlude - elegy for Professor Dorfman.
