About the creation

The Concerto for violoncello and string orchestra is based on a twelve-tone row. Of the forty-eight versions of the original tone-row, eight are made up of linear changes together with transpositions to harmonic structures. Nuclear ideas develop into broader forms and rhythmic motives provide the basic raw material from which the general outline of the three-part form is constructed.
