Bracha Bdil
Bracha Bdil (1988) is an Israeli-British composer, conductor, and pianist, winner of the Prime Minister’s Award for Composition (Israel, 2022) and the ACUM Award (2019). Her repertoire spans different mediums including orchestral music, chamber, vocal and electronic music
Bracha has a B.Ed. in Music Education from Levinsky College and a Master’s Degree in Music Education and Composition from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, led by Professor Andre Hajdu, o.b.m. and ProfessorHaim Permont. Throughout her education, she studied classical voice with Hadassah Ben-Haim, classical piano with Dina Orlov and Dr. Irena Berkowitz, jazz with Marina Lewinsky, and piano chamber music with Professor Alexander Tamir o.b.m. She studied conducting with Elli Jaffe and Evgeny Tzirlin.
Bracha’s compositions have won several first prizes, among them: MaestrosVision Awards International Composition Competition, China (2022); The International Symphony Orchestra Composition Contest named after Michal Kleofas Oginski, Molodechno, Belarus; The Electo Silva International Choir Festival, Santiago de Cuba; Donne In Musica XVIII Composition Competition, Belgrade; The VIII and the IX International Piano & Composition Competition, ULJUS, Smederevo, Serbia (2021); The Wolf Durmashkin Composition Award, Germany (2018) and the Yardena Alotin Composition Competition, Bar-Ilan University, Israel (2016).
Bracha’s composition Yizkerem (May Our Lord Remember Them), for a cappella choir, represented Israel at the Asian Composers League Festival, Taiwan (2018). Yizkerem was also awarded a prize in the III International Composer Competition “New Music Generation”, Kazakhstan (2021) and in the International Choral Writing Competition named after A.D Kastalsky – Moscow (2018).
Bracha’s other compositions have won other competition, among them: The Renee B. Fisher Composer Awards, New Haven, Connecticut; The International Composition Competition Artistes en Herbe, Luxembourg (2023); The Femfestival competition, Florence (2022); The Carlos Guastavino International Composition Competition, SONUS-IMF, Baltimore, Maryland; The Hajibeyli International Composition Competition, Azerbaijan (2021); and the Lala Awards competition held by Pleroma Records, Poland (2020).
In Israel, her works are broadcast on the Israel Radio Voice of Music program and have been performed at various events, including: “Excellence-The Future Generation” Series, Eden- Tamir Music Center, Ein Kerem (2014-2022); IsraeliMusic Festival (2018, 2023); “Witches?” Festival (2022); TARF-Tel Aviv International Recorder Festival (2020); Voice of music young artist competition, Zimriya Festival (2018) ; Israel Festival (2017) ; Piano Festival (2015) ; Concert Series of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra (2019) ;”Singing with the Sinfonietta” Series, the Be’er Sheva Symphony Orchestra (2014) ;and more.
Bracha Bdil is a member of the Israel Composers’ League and her works are published by the Israel Music Institute.
Bracha has been a lecturer for the faculty of music at the Levinsky College of Music Education, the Jerusalem College, and at the Ron Shulamit Conservatory, she has also worked as a pianist in dance classes at the Wingate College and in theater performances. Beginning in the fall of 2018, Bracha became the artistic director and chief conductor of the Zmora Women’s Orchestra in Jerusalem.
