Gad Avrahami

Gad Avrahami was born in kibbutz Shamir, ISRAEL, in 1952. In his youth he was very much into sport especially swimming – he was the youth champion in the butterfly style, and into music.

He started studying music composition , and musicology at the Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv University on October 1977. For the BA degree he studied with prof. Sergio Natra. For his MA degree he studied with prof. Leon Schidlowsky.

His Chamber , choral , and orchestral pieces were performed , recorded , and broadcasted in Israel , and abroad.

His piece Trio No.3 for bass Clarinet , Cello ,and Piano ,was performed at the ISCM World Music days festival in Hong Kong on October 2002. His piece Resurrection for mixed Choir , Bass Clarinet & 3 percussion players ,to text by Yeuda Amichai , was performed by the Netherlands Chamber Choir in Holland , in Hebrew , in several Concerts on November 2002. 

In June 2005 he won the “Prime Minister Award” for composers.

In the last years he has been concentrating on writing a cycle of pieces for solo instruments : Monologue(s) ,for Cello , Guitar , and Trombone , and a piece for mixed choir : Why Does the River Run ,to a poem by Simshon Chalfi.

 

During most of his professional life , he worked as a guitar teacher in

 Consevatorys , and as a teacher for harmony , orchestration , composition , and solfege , in music classes for matriculation examination
