Hana Ajiashvili

The compositions of Dr. Hana Ajiashvili are performed on major stages in Israel and abroad, forming part of the repertoire of leading ensembles such as Ensemble 21st Century, Meitar Ensemble, Musica Nova, Continuum (New York), Studio for New Music (Moscow), Triomisicals (Madrid), Momenta Quartet, and Mivos Quartet. Her works have been selected for performance at prestigious festivals, including the ISCM World Music Days, Israeli Music Days, Meitar Ensemble’s CEME Festival, the Tzlil Meudkan Festival, the Asian Composers League (ACL) Festival, as well as contemporary music festivals in Dresden, Hamburg, Moscow, and Bucharest.

Her artistic work has earned her prominent accolades, including the ACUM Award for her piece Mere Air (2017), the Prime Minister’s Prize for Composers (2008), and the Competition for Young Israeli Composers prize held by Ensemble 21st Century for Reflections (2004).

She began her musical training in her native Tbilisi (Georgia), where she was born in 1972 and studied piano and composition at the Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire under the guidance of composer Mamisashvili. In 1996, she moved to Moscow to continue her composition studies under composer Tarnopolsky. During her time in Moscow, Ajiashvili was active in the contemporary music scene, working with the Young Composers Committee of the local Composers’ Union and at the Studio for New Music at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Tarnopolsky’s direction. Following her immigration to Israel in 2001, she earned her Ph.D. in Composition from Bar-Ilan University in 2007, under the supervision of Professors Gideon Lewensohn and Betty Olivero.
