Oleg Bogod
Dr. Oleg Bogod is an Israeli composer, jazz pianist, and arranger.
Bogod was born in 1975 in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he began his musical journey studying piano at the Vilnius Conservatory. He completed his studies in jazz piano performance at the Vilnius Music College. In 1996, Bogod immigrated to Israel and continued his education at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in composition and jazz performance under the guidance of Prof. Vyacheslav Ganelin. He pursued his academic and creative journey further with a PhD in composition from Bar-Ilan University, studying with Prof. Gideon Lewensohn and Prof. Betty Olivero.
Over the years, Bogod has composed a diverse array of works for soloists, chamber ensembles, and orchestras. His compositions have been performed on prestigious stages in Israel and abroad, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Tel Aviv Heihal Tarbut, the Jerusalem Theater and more.
Bogod is the recipient of several distinguished awards, including the Prime Minister’s Prize for Composers (2019), Second Prize at the Dmitri Shostakovich Composition Competition in St. Petersburg (2018), the Yuri Shtern Prize for Immigrant Artists from the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration (2017) and First Prize at the international composition competition “Golden Menorah” in Moscow (2002).
In 2006, Bogod joined the administration of the Hassadna Conservatory in Jerusalem, and since 2010, he has served as the conservatory’s Deputy Director. For decades, Dr. Bogod has been engaged in teaching jazz piano and composition. Many of his students have gone on to pursue higher education in music both in Israel and abroad, serve in the military as outstanding musicians, and perform in military bands.
