About the creation

The Concerto for Orchestra was composed at the invitation of Maestro Gabor Hollerung, music director and principal conductor of the Dohnanyi Budafok Symphony Orchestra (Budapest). His belief in my capabilities as a purely orchestral composer without the framework of a text or specific programmatic idea, are the catalyst for the creation of this free associative work. Although the work has four movements and is not a three movement 'concerto' in the classical sense, it still uses classical form in all of its movements i.e. sonata form, extended cyclic form, small rondo form and the last movement also in sonata form. The composition is tonal in its overall conception, although serial techniques and bi-tonality are an integral part of the musical language employed. It is a 'concerto' for orchestra since I have tried to give all the instruments of the orchestra either a a group or as soloists, the opportunity to present their lyrical as virtuoso sides, and thus create a 'kaleidoscope' of many different shades and colors. The Concerto for o=Orchestra is dedicated to Maestro Hollerung and the Dohnanyi-Budafok Symphony Orchestra (Budapest) in deep gratitude and admiration. composer's notes
