About the creation

Five Capricci for piano was written in 1957 and is the first work in which the composer`s interest in dodecaphonic technique finds expression. The whole composition is based on one tone-row (with permutations). It is worth mentioning that following on these Capricci, Gelbrun`s First Symphony makes use of the same tone-row as well.

The work was given its first performance by the Israeli pianist, Galia Amitai, in 1959. It also exists in an orchestral version which was first performed in 1961 by the Radio Lausanne Orchestra with the composer conducting.
