About the creation

Jacoby's work takes the form of Theme and Variations, each variation characterizing one stage in the history of Israel and of the Royal tune, the first statements of which is sounded by the solo viola (or violin) pizzicato imitating the vibrant sounds of an Aeolian Harp.

The quotations in Variations nos. IV, VII and IX are Biblical passages which are connected to the musical spirit of the piece.
