About the creation

Klezmer Reflections for oboe and piano (also for flute and piano), is a composition reminiscent of the style of the Klezmer, the legendary Eastern European Jewish street instrumentalists who, though unschooled, often reached the highest plateaus of virtuosity. “Klezmer Reflections,” however, doesn’t quote any traditional sources. Rather, it is inspired by them. Rhapsodic in style, it presents the main theme in a light and graceful mood, which subsequently grows broad and outspoken. The section earmarked “Lovers’ Duet’’ employs questions and answers to weave a multicolor, tweed-like narrative of the past and the present. Martin Bookspan
