About the creation
In 1962, the dancer Arieh Kalev suggested that I compose music for him depicting natural phenomena and forces. On the lawn of our garden in Ramat Aviv, he demonstrated his ideas to me through dance. We quickly found a common language. The music was written rapidly and recorded by percussionists from the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. However, in the meantime, Arieh Kalev was injured in a car accident. He was severely hurt and forced to stop dancing.
Years later, I decided to adapt the music for concert hall performance. Out of about ten movements I had composed for Arieh Kalev, I retained six and titled them Little Chrams.
The piece was first performed live at the Israel Festival in 1971.
