About the creation
Love Under a Different Sun is a cycle of five songs for soprano (or mezzo-soprano), flute, violin and violoncello. It is based on texts taken from a collection of love poems of various cultures which were published in Italian by Alfonso M. Di Nola and translated into Hebrew by Rina Shani.
Inspired by the texts, the composer creates a specific atmosphere in each of the five songs relating to a kind of imaginary folklore. The melodic lines and the instrumental accompaniment are thus treated in different ways according to the character and meaning of each song.
The cycle was composed in summer 1982 and premiered in 1983 in Tel Aviv by Emilie Berendsen, to whom it is dedicated.
