About the creation

Monodrama for clarinet and piano, written in 1970, is one of the six chamber works comprising the cycle "Chamber Music 1970".

It is a quasi "short opera" with one hero - the clarinetist, who lives his drama on the stage accompanied by an orchestra - the piano. Hence the name of the five movements of the work.

The piece was premiered in 1972 in Israel by the clarinetists Yona Ettlinger - for whom the work was written - and the pianist Pnina Salzman.
