About the creation

Monodrama for viola and piano is a version of the original composition for clarinet and piano, written in 1970 as one of six chamber works by Mordecai Seter, comprising the cycle "Chamber Music 1970".

It is a quasi "short opera" with one hero - the violist, who lives his drama on the stage accompanied by an orchestra - the piano. Hence the name of the five movements of the work.

The piece was premiered in 1973 in Tel Aviv by Gad Lewertoff and Pnina Salzman.
