About the creation

Motets for choir a cappella - "By the Rivers of Babylon", "And it Came to Pass...", and "Blessed Be the Lord" - were completed in 1951 and first performed by the Rinat Chamber Choir under the baton of Gary Bertini in May 1956. The text is Biblical and the music is based on traditional motives of the oriental communities. The work is dedicated to the late Reuven Yaron, a talented young composer who fell in battle during the Sinai campaign in November 1956.
