About the creation

Postludium is written in a free narrative style and is a kind of monologue of the solo instrument. Its shape can be perceived as a symphonic poem moving, as if in counter direction, from the end to the beginning, from the climax to the presentation of the entire material hear throughout. The piece is based on two elements – one tonal, the other modal. At its close, a quote from the Agnus Dei movement of J. S. Bach's Mass in B minor is heard.

Postludium for viola and orchestra, composed in 2002, was commissioned by the Israel Chamber Orchestra for the leader of their viola section, Gad Levertov.
