About the creation

Sabbath Cantata was composed in 1940 and first performed in 1941 under the baton of Eytan Lustig. Sabbath Cantata consists of seven independent movements interrelated by the common idea of Sabbath. The melodic material is based on bible cantilations and liturgic chants of Sephardic Jews. The texts are traditional, taken from the Bible, prayers and liturgic hymns.
