About the creation

SHUR DODI (behold, My Love) – Theme and Variations for Trombone and Piano, on a Yemenite Song: This work was composed in 1969 having been commissioned by the National Council for Culture and Art, affiliated to the Ministry of Education and Culture. Its object is methodological, and its contains no innovation as regards playing techniques, form or harmony. The composer has used a Yemenite folk-song as the theme for five Variations and a Coda. Each of the Variations bears a distinct and separate character. The trombone player is afforded every opportunity to demonstrate his ability in legato, staccato, the jumps characteristic of this instrument, etc. The work is written for an advanced or performer-class pupil, but it is also suitable for concert performance. The piano is of the same standard of difficulty as that of the trombone.
