About the creation

The "Sinfonia Breve" was composed at the invitaion of Maestro Avner Biron, music direcor and principal conductor of the Israel Camerata, Jerusalem, to be performed in the orchestra's 2010-2011 subscription series. The work is named "sinfonia Breve", since it has all the elements of a classical symphony on a miniature scale, and is approximately 14 minutes in duration. There are 4 movements although the second, third and fourth movements are played without a break. Each movement uses classical form (at times modified) as its format: 1. Andantino-Cyclic form (ABCBA) 2. Andante Cantabile - Trio form (ABA) 3. Poco Allegretto - Cyclic form (ABCBA) 4. Allegro con spirito - Grand rondo form (ABACABA) The Symphony is tonal in its overall conception, although serial techniques and bitonality are used here as well. "Sinfonia Breve" was commissioned by Mr. Alan Septimus of New York, USA and is dedicated tto him in deep gratitude. Composer's notes.
