About the creation
The Sonata for violin was composed in 1953 and was first performed by the Israeli violinist Yossi Zivoni in Tel Aviv in 1955.
The Sonata consists of an Introduction and a Chaconne. The development of the single melodic instrumental line is the idea underlying the whole work. As in the baroque chaconne, there is an ever-increasing degree of movement with each ensuing variation, until a climax is reached. A quiet coda brings the sonata to a close.
