About the creation

The String Quartet was written in 1972 and was first performed in 1973 at the Bar-Ilan University by the new Israel String Quartet. The musical elements of this work are derived from the melody of the piyut "Yah Eli" as sung by Libyan Jews and recorded by Dr. Leo Levi, in the National Sound Archives, The Jewish National and University Library, Jerusalem.
