About the creation

The subject of he work is the contrast between the elegant dance, aristocratic and naive, and the lusty, demonic, wild and a decadent one. The musical material is similar in all the three waltzes of the title. It contains a dodecaphonic theme which appears in all its forms (inversion, retrograde and their combination); some secondary themes' and a recurring motif built of four consecutive chromatic tones. Polar forces such as struggle and acceptance, introversion and extroversion, earnestness and derision confront each other turbulently until victory is won by the strongest among them.

Three Waltzes were first performed on March 23, 1993 in Tel Aviv by Rachel Feinstein. (Composer's note)
