About the creation

The Toccata for Piano is of virtuoso character and has a single theme. It was composed in 1973 on the basis of a Middle Eastern song written earlier by the composer. In 1981 he revised the work and, in its new version, dedicated it to the peace between Israel and Egypt. Since then it has been performed by the composer-pianist in recitals throughout Israel and on his tours abroad. Rami Bar-Niv was invited to appear in Cairo and on May 29, 1982 gave a recital there in which his "Toccata" was included. It is worth noting that Mr, Bar-Niv was the first Israeli musician to appear in Cairo following the signing of the peace treaty with Egypt. The Toccata was recorded by the composer in 1987 on the CBS Album "Rhapsody in Blue" No. 451021-1.
