About the creation

Two Pieces for four clarinets was composed in 1965 and had its premiere in the world music days in Boston in 1976 - directed by Gunther Schuller. The first movement - Three Aspects of Janus is based on a common formal idea of a retrograde symmetrical structure. The second movement - No Exit - is a kind of rondo, with a main homophonic section, repeated three times with two interpolations of free nature.  The notation is graphic-proportional, enabling a certain freedom of interpretation in every performance.
