About the creation

The work was written in 1975 for a commission by Israel Music Institute for the Eliezer Peri Educational Series.

The melody is based on a Russian Chabad Hassidic niggun to the Passover Haggadah text "Who Knows One," Translated into Russian and sung in that language. The niggun was brought to Israel by cantor Bereleh Saltzman, who also recorded an arrangement of it by Andre Hajdu.
