About the creation

Dervish Melodies was commissioned by the Israeli Music Institute for the Eliezer Peri Educational Series and was written in 1974. The work is based on a Bukharian wedding song ("Kukiya"). The recording of the song was made by Johanna Spector and transcribed by Haim Alexander and is a part of the National sound Archives in the National Library of Israel.
