About the creation

My short work Festive Fanfare is just what its title implies. I composed it in 1996 to serve either as an overture or as a closing piece for a festive event. Following a short opening by percussion instruments, a kind of fanfare by shofars is heard, played by brass instruments. The fanfare gathers srength and reaches a climax which ends in a deep silence. Now the sound of celli rises in a melody drawn from traditional biblical cantillations. The melody rises, gets gradually stronger and brings the piece to its impressive close in a manner which brings o mind a burst of colourful fireworks.
